Watering is often the biggest ongoing garden cost. Watering well means using less and getting better plants.
Tips
- Water early in the morning, at the base of plants
- Water deeply and less often, so roots grow down
- Mulch with straw, leaves or wood chips to keep moisture in
- Use soaker hoses or drip lines on a timer instead of sprinklers
- Collect rainwater in a barrel for ornamental beds and containers, if local rules allow
