Fresh herbs are some of the most expensive things in the produce aisle, and among the easiest to grow at home, even indoors.
What grows well inside
- Basil, in the sunniest window
- Parsley and chives
- Mint, in its own pot
- Green onions regrown from the white root ends in a glass of water, then planted in soil
Tips
- A south-facing window is best; herbs need lots of light
- Use pots with drainage holes and a saucer
- Pick often, from the top, to keep plants bushy
- Grocery store herb plants can be repotted and kept going
